FAQ

Q: Can I choose where I want to have physical therapy?

A: Yes. The place where you decide to have your treatment is your choice.  You may have a referral for a specific location from a physician, but you always have the option of choosing where you want to go.

Q: Does insurance cover physical therapy?

A: Health insurance generally covers physical therapy treatment, but each insurance plan is different.  You should contact your insurance carrier to inquire about your physical therapy benefits.  You may contact Functional Physical Therapy Center to determine if you are in our network.

Q: Do I need a Doctor’s referral?

A: Idaho is a Direct Access state.  This means that with most insurance plans you may be treated in physical therapy without the referral of a physician, BUT each insurance plan is different and some insurances require authorization with a prescription from your physician to be eligible for physical therapy. Please contact your insurance carrier to see if you need a physician referral for physical therapy.  You may contact Functional Physical Therapy if you have any questions regarding this process.

Q: Do you accept credit cards?

A: Yes, we accept cash, checks, and credit cards.

Q: Do you communicate with my doctor?

A: Following your initial visit, a Plan of Care is sent to the physician who referred you to our clinic. During the course of your treatment, progress notes are sent to your doctor.  At the end of your treatment, a discharge summary will be sent to your doctor.

Q: How long will my appointments be?

A: Your first appointment will take approximately 1-1.5 hours. You should plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out the patient paperwork if you have not filled out the patient information online. Please bring your physician referral, identification card, and insurance card.  Follow up appointments are approximately 45-60 minutes.

Q: What should I wear?

A: You should also wear modest comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely.

Q: How often will my appointments be?

A: The frequency of your appointments will be determined at the time of the initial evaluation, but typically patients come to physical therapy 1-3 times per week with a duration that ranges from 4-8 weeks (or more depending on the condition).

Q: What are my options when I have completed physical therapy?

A: Once your physical therapy is complete you will be able to continue with the exercise program that the therapist has given you.  The other option is to participate in the Functional Physical Therapy Center’s exercise program design.  This is where you will have an individualize exercise and fitness program written for you to continue to work on independently.  This provides you the benefit of having the individualized program without the higher cost of other wellness programs or personal training programs.
